Zica is immensely important for Serbian Orthodox people. It represents a symbol of the establishment of the Serbian state, the seat of the first Serbian archbishopric and the crowning place of Serbian kings.

Monastery was built in the 13th century in Raska style and it is recognizable by the red façade of the main buildings of the monastery, a symbol of the kingdom, and that distinguishes it from other monasteries built during that period.

Today this holy place is the greatest female monastery in Serbia. Even though the monastery had been destroyed several times, it rose like a phoenix, again and again and revived.
