Visit the last Serbian medieval capital of whose conquering marked the beginning of three and a half centuries long slavery of Serbia under Turkish empire. Discover a city of rich culture and history.

Symbol of the city is Smederevo fortress, the largest medieval fortresses in Europe,  that is placed at the mouth of the Jezava  and Danube River. It was built by the Serbian despot Djuradj Brankovic as his capital in the fifteenth century. During its long and turbulent history, it has managed to keep his monumentality.

This the city with a long wine tradition. Every year in late September, here is organized a manifestation called “Smederevo fall”, dedicated to the harvest of grapes and wine, with parades of medieval knights, with a rich program in the very fortress and the city streets.
