'' The mother of all Serbian monasteries'' is the name of the most important, largest and wealthiest medieval monastery.

Pastor Stefan Nemanja, founder of the first Serbian dynasty, founded a monastery in the year 1190th, which is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The monastery is under the protection of UNESCO.

The monastery is known for its collection of frescoes from the XIII and XIV century. In this pearl of Serbian medieval architecture, are based relics of Stefan Nemanja, his wife Anastasia and their two sons Vukan and Stefan.
