Irig town

Irig is situated in Srem, more precisely in its central part, 20 km from Novi Sad to the south. The major road Novi Sad - Irig - Ruma that is directly connected with the international road of the first degree E-70 goes through the central part of the community.

The Partisan's road that goes by the crest of the Fruska Gora and by which the community is connected with important tourist picnic places at Fruska Gora, also goes through the community.

Irig town is exceptionally rich in built objects that are rightfully protected by its common values. In the settlement territory there are objects of sacral architecture situated: St. Nikola church that was built from 1732 to 1740 and which was serving the church of monastery Hopovo as an example. The church has an exceptional value and its iconostasis is particularly picturesque and valuable. The Uspenska church was built from 1750 to 1764 and the new bell tower was built in 1837. The St. Tiron church was built in 1780 on the grounds of an old church from 1679. Monuments of civil architecture from the 19th and from the beginning of the 20th century include objects of the narrower city center. Among them particularly stand out an old building of a library and a building of young people's recreation center and community. Inside the community, there is the National Park of Fruska Gora that represents the most attractive tourist area in the province with its natural and anthropogenic values. Inside the community, on the mountain of Fruska Gora, even 10 orthodox monasteries are situated. The most famous are Novo Hopovo, Grgeteg, Krusedol, Velika Remeta and Jazak. There are also specific localities like the ethno-house in Jazak or the thermal spa in Vrdnik etc.
