The community of Subotica is situated in the final north of Backa, at the border to Hungary. It is a very important crossroad of motorways and railroads. It is placed on the international motorway E-75 and important railroad route that connects the Balkans with North and West Europe.

Today, Subotica is the second biggest town in Vojvodina. It was mentioned as a settlement back to XVI century. During the centuries it was under rule of different masters. One of the most interesting figures of its past is emperor Jovan Nenad, whose center of empire was exactly in Subotica. Subotica experienced a particularly intensive development in the XIX century. Today, Subotica is a great industrial and agricultural center and the most important town of the entire northern part of Vojvodina. The town with its surroundings possesses a lot of interesting localities for tourists. Besides the old City Hall, a monumental building from the beginning of this century with ornaments, mosaics and decorations of great art value, also stand out the Town Museum Building that is made in famous zsolnai ceramics, the Town Library and the theater building.

Subotica is a town with a great number of religious objects, of which the monumental Catholic cathedral and the Jewish synagogue that is the biggest in Vojvodina stand out. The entire city nucleus is characterized by beautiful architectonic buildings, built in gothic, baroque, secession, neoclassicism styles that put Subotica among the most beautiful towns in the Pannonian area.

The complex Palic is located near Subotica. There are arranged footpaths, a zoo, hotels, restaurants and different sports terrains by the lake. In the direct vicinity of the town, beside the lake of Palic, there are also an ornithological station and an ethno-house where you will meet with the former way of life in this area. Famous manifestations are: The First May at Palic, the Duzijanca Harvest Festival, the Barber's Days at Palic, the International Film Festival, the Festival of amateur's theatres and the Festival of Vojvodina's experimental scenes.
