Monastery Manasija is the heritage of duke Stefan Lazarevic and was built at the beginning of the 15th century. The monastery is surrounded with a strong wall and eleven fortified towers.

Duke Stefan made himself a tomb and he was burried there. Since the foundation, until the Great Migration, the monastery is the location of educated monks who were literature workers. Literary work was especially productive during Konstantin, the biographer of duke Stefan.
