Novi Sad is situated in the southern part of the spacious
Pannonian plain by the
river Danube in the region of
Backa, 75 km southwest from Novi Sad is
Belgrade, the capital and the largest town in Serbia, and 110 km to the north are
Subotica and the border crossings to
Hungary. Novi Sad is directly connected with the international
motorway E-75, and in the vicinity, over the mountain of
Fruska Gora, Novi Sad can be reached from the international
motorway E-70.
Novi Sad arised on the left bank of the river Danube in the XVII century as settlement of craftsmen and merchants, and since 1748 Novi Sad abruptly developed as free emperor-royal city.The town started to establish secondary schools, the
Gimnasium in 1810, the
Library Matica Srpska with the oldest literary journal in Europe that appeared in print in 1826 and the Serbian National Theater in 1861. The town was gradually recovered and the city nucleus got today's appearance after destruction in the Bourgeois revolution that happened in 1848/1849. After
the First World War, Novi Sad became part of
Serbia and
Montenegro. Today, Novi Sad is a city with about 350 000 citizens and it is the political, administrative, but also economic, cultural and educational center of
Vojvodina.
The trademark of the city is the
Petrovaradin fortress. It is located on the right bank of the
river Danube, opposite to the city center. It is built between 1692 and 1790 according to the plan of the French architect
Sebastian Voban. The fortress stretches on the area of 112 ha, it has 12 000 loopholes and 16 km of underground corridors at four levels (some of the corridors are considered that lead even under the river Danube).These data speak about the monumentality of this fortress. Today here are located artist's studios, a museum, a hotel etc. From the fortress you also have a beautiful view over the city. Different cultural manifestations take place on the fortress. The most massive manifestation is certainly the summer
musical festival EXIT that gathers around 250 000 to 350 000 young people.
The city nucleus is full of many architectonic buildings that represent a mixture of gothic, baroque, secession and neoclassicism. There are located the most important institutions, museums, galleries, etc. Among many galleries and museums stand out the
Gallery of Matica Srpska established in 1874 that keeps the most beautiful and the most complete collection of paintings and graphics of Serbian art of painting, the
Museum of Vojvodina with permanent supposition of period furniture and objects of applicable art, and in the direct vicinity is the
Naturalist Museum as well as the
Memorial collection of Pavle Beljanski.The narrower city center hides a great number of invaluable religious temples. St. George's orthodox cathedral, the Catholic church from 1895 in gothic style and the Synagogue from 1809 are the most impressive and the most beautiful religious temples among others. The monument of poet
Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj in the
Zmaj Jovina street, the
monument of Svetozar Miletic that dominates in the very center of the city or the
monument of Djura Jaksic that is placed in
Dunavski Park, give special attraction to this part of the city. One of the oldest, but the most beautiful streets in Novi Sad is
Dunavska street. In continuation of the Dunavska Street is Dunavski park where is located the monument of Djura Jaksic. At the other side of Dunavska street is Zmaj Jovina street, the main street where is, beside many impressive buildings, also located the Zmaj Jova monument. The monument of
Svetozar Miletic dominates the main city square that continues on Zmaj Jova street. Very attractive parts of Novi Sad are
Grckoskolska street,
Mileticeva street and
Pasiceva street where is situated the Matica Srpska, the most important cultural institution of Serbian people in this area. In the narrower nucleus is
Mladenci Square, one of the oldest and the most beautiful square in this area. Today there are the
Adamoviceva Palace, the
Palace of Elites and the Registrar's building around this square. An extremely monumental building is
Banovina, built between 1935 and 1939. The
Parliament and the
Executive Council of Vojvodina are today accommodated inside this building.
Novi Sad is a fair city with tradition since 1923. During a year at Novi Sad's fair are organized specialized fairs and exhibits that have become very valuable for the entire province. Novi Sad is also an university town that represents, with 13 faculties and a enormous number of majors, the most important center in the country after Belgrade.

Fruska Gora

The most popular one day tourist destination from
Belgrade is a visit to the
Fruska Gora Mountain, protected by the
National Park of Nature.
Fruska Gora Mountain has also been called
The third Saint Mount because of its 17 monasteries. The fame of the wines of the
Fruska Gora goes far back to the period of the
Habsburg Monarchy. This famous wine has been sipped at the Court of Vienna, throughout
Europe, America and many other countries.

Irig town
Irig is situated in
Srem, more precisely in its central part, 20 km from Novi Sad to the south. The major road

Fruska Gora and by which the community is connected with important tourist picnic places at Fruska Gora, also goes through the community.
Irig town is exceptionally rich in built objects that are rightfully protected by its common values. In the settlement territory there are objects of sacral architecture situated:
St. Nikola church that was built from 1732 to 1740 and which was serving the church of
monastery Hopovo as an example. The church has an exceptional value and its iconostasis is particularly picturesque and valuable.
The Uspenska church was built from 1750 to 1764 and the new bell tower was built in 1837.
The St. Tiron church was built in 1780 on the grounds of an old church from 1679. Monuments of civil architecture from the 19th and from the beginning of the 20th century include objects of the narrower city center. Among them particularly stand out an old building of a library and a building of young people's recreation center and community. Inside the community, there is
the National Park of Fruska Gora that represents the most attractive tourist area in the province with its natural and anthropogenic values. Inside the community, on the mountain of
Fruska Gora, even 10 orthodox monasteries are situated. The most famous are
Novo Hopovo, Grgeteg, Krusedol, Velika Remeta and
Jazak. There are also specific localities like the
ethno-house in Jazak or the
thermal spa in Vrdnik etc.
Bela Crkva town
Bela Crkva, 96 km from
Belgrade, is a little town in the south of
Banat. With its beautiful countryside, old and picturesque facades and streets, parks and lakes, it is a genuine oasis for tourists. Being far from the hustle and bustle of big cities and speed of modern life,

Catching BESSIE, the capital fish is a well-known manifestation held in summer every year in honor of a catfish of 200 kg. It weighs so much as far as fishermen stories go. We also recommend you to try some fish soup in one of the restaurants in
Stara Palanka, which is located at the confluence of
Danube - Tisa - Danube Canal, about 10 km from Bela Crkva.
If you want to visit
the old Roman fortress Ram, you can take and enjoy a ferryboat ride. The
Deliblato desert, a unique sandy terrain in Europe, lies within reach of 15 km from
Bela Crkva. It is a popular outing and a well-known hunting ground, particularly for big games. Then, if you happen to have a passport on you, you can drop by to the ecological country of
Romania which is in the closest vicinity - the border crossing being only 12 km away.
Vrsac, a town that has wonderful sights and a lot to offer to visitors, is also quite close to
Bela Crkva.
Vrsac town
The municipality of Vrsac is situated in the southeast of
Banat, towards the Romanian border. Motorways and railroads that make the closest connection between
Belgrade and Timisoara go through Vrsac. Besides, the road
Vrsac - Kovin – Smederevo - or
the highway E- 75 is also important. The mountain of Vrsac that raises from the monotonous plain offers good conditions for recreation thanks to its mild and pleasant slopes. Misa, the upper part of the mountain, is located in the southern part of the massif.
The Red Cross and the Wide Crest are the most famous picnic places in the municipality of Vrsac.
Archaeological sites in
Vrsac,
Vatin,
Mesic and
Oresac prove that this area was settled back during the Neolite. The monumental tower of Vrsac (from the 16th century) has been destroyed several times, but today it is restored. The most beautiful view of Banat stretches out from here. In the
village Mesic there is
a monastery from the 15th century, the center of
Serbian spirituality in this part of
Banat. The most important sights in the very town are:
The City Hall - consisting of three buildings, two in classical style, in other words in neogothic style, built in 1757.
The Palace of Eparchy from the 18th century. Today it is the residence of Banat's bishops.
The chapel with iconostasis, the library and the gallery of portraits of Vrsac's bishops.
The Pharmacy at stairs - the old pharmacy built in baroque style, where today is accommodated a collection of the
National Museum.
Konkordija - built in classical style in 1847 and bought up in 1852 for needs of the
St. Roka chapel, the oldest church in town. Among other objects in town, there are also the Orthodox cathedral and the monumental cathedral, built in pseudogothic style, with an impressive interior. Among the manifestations in Vrsac, the Festival of Vojvodina's folklorists and the Vrsac's picking of grapes really stand out . There is an airport within the
Pilot School of JAT. An organized visit to this school center is possible.
Pancevo town
Pancevo is situated in the southwest of
Banat, in the river basin of
Danube, Tamis and Nadela. The mostly used road is
Pancevo - Vrsac - Romanian border (E-94) that represents a part of
the E-5 motorway (Budapest - Belgrade) and
the E-70 motorway (Munich - Zagreb – Belgrade). The most important regional roads are:
Ulima – Bela Crkva, as well as a part of the road
Timisoara -Buzias. The very important international railroad track
Belgrade - Timisoara - Buceresti - Constanta also passes through
Pancevo.
The region of
Pancevo is characterized, on the one hand, by the preserved city nucleuses of the typical Pannonian towns and, on the other, by culture and tradition of rural life.
Pancevo has two rivers, each with beautiful banks where some localities represent attractions like
Forkontumac Island, which is the favorite picnic place of the inhabitants of Belgrade. The archaeological settlement of the oldest culture found in
Vojvodina - Starcevo's Culture is situated very close to Pancevo.
The Monastery Voilovica from the 16th century also represents a master-piece of architecture, and there are also the
Uspenska Orthodox Church with icons of
Konstantin Danilo in baroque style, the
Preobrayenska Church with icons of
Uros Predic in postbyzantium style, and the church in
Omoljica that is one of the oldest. Surely, the most important destination is
Deliblato's sandy terrain, of which one part belongs to the community of Pančevo.
Zrenjanin town
Zrenjanin is situated in the middle of
Banat, 40 km from
Novi Sad and 60 km from Belgrade. It represents the most important crossroad in the Serbian part of
Banat. This way the following roads pass: Novi Sad - Arad, Belgrade - Timisoara, Kikinda - Belgrade. It is connected to the rest of the world by an international railroad.
On the territory of this municipality there are rivers
Tisa, Begej and Tamis, there are several picnic localities formed, like Bobotovo near
Elemir and Botos by
Tamis. In the vicinity of Zrenjanin, there is
Rusanda Spa, sanatorium and activity center, where
hydrothermal mud and other massages for rehabilitation and vacation are also used today, besides the treatment of diseases of locomotor systems and gynecology diseases.
Besides Rusanda, there are
famous fishing areas around islands
Okanj and
Ostrvo. In the neighborhood of Zrenjanin, more precisely near
Ecka, the famous
Carska Bara (the Emperor's swamp) and the protected natural reservation
Stari Begej – Carska Bara are located.
Carska Bara is known as one of the biggest ornithological stations in Europe, so that this area is ideal for a photo-safari.
Carska Bara also offers a possibility for sports fishing.
The castle Ecka, a representative of former glamour, is situated in Ečka where the Gallery of the most famous painters in Yugoslavia is also placed, beside a hotel and a beautiful park.

Kikinda town
Kikinda is situated in the northeast of
Banat, not far from the Romanian border. The most important roads are
Zrenjanin - Kikinda - Senta (M-24), then
Novi Becej - Kikinda - Nakovo - Romanian border. Kikinda can also be reached by train. The most important railroad track goes from the direction of
Subotica to Kikinda and continues in the direction of
Zrenjanin and
Pancevo.
Archaeological researches and remainders of material culture point out that people lived here even in the Bronze and Iron Ages. Near
Idjos there is the locality
Gradiste with objects of the Neolite age.
Mokrin's culture that dates from the
Bronze Age is also known.
When you arrive to
Kikinda, you should visit the magnificent architectonic buildings among which stand out
the City Hall from 1835 built in classical style,
the Serbian Orthodox church of St. Archangels Mihail and Gavril and
the Place of Worship Vodica at Tekije. Moreover, it is certainly worth to visit the famous protected
mill of Suvaca,
the Modern Gallery and
The National Museum. In
the Museum of Quartary, you can see unique exemplars of mammoth animals that lived during the Ice Age.
Kikinda is the town of tiles and the biggest factory of these products in Yugoslavia is located here. Kikinda's citizens make of tiles something more then just a building material.
Every year in
Kikinda is organized
the Simpozium Terra, where gather the most famous sculptors in Serbia.
Kikinda has a
hotel Narvik, that was once the best hotel in
Vojvodina. Besides well equipped rooms, the hotel also has a winter swimming pool, sauna, solarium, trim center, and the national restaurant Lala's room is characteristic for the hotel.
The hunting areas in the community of Kikinda are rich with short venison, and the hunting ground is far and wide known by rabbits. A special value has the Mausoleum of the Čarnojević family in
Rusko Selo.

Kikinda, there is one of the most beautiful sport centers in Vojvodina with a hall, an opened and covered swimming pool, tennis courts etc.
Potisje region
Potisje occupies the area around the river
Tisa, from the Hungarian border to the municipality of
Becej. The greatest beauty and natural gift to this part of
Vojvodina is the river
Tisa.
The Tisa River, with its calm and winding course with a great number of cut meanders and very rich flora and fauna, conjures up in the small area all beauties of the
Pannonian plain. Communities that tend toward this beautiful river are:
Coka, Novi Knezevac, Kanjiza and Senta.
Senta is the most important town of this region. The first information about Senta dates from 1216. It is known in the history the famous battle near Senta, when the Turkish army was heavily defeated by the Hungarians and after which the Turkish army did not recover at all. Today in Senta, there are
the Museum and the Archives where the oldest fine art colony in Vojvodina is established in 1952.
Kanjiza was first mentioned in 1071. In the 16th century, the Turks took this region and after Karlovac's peace and forming of the military border, two bigger settlements were seperated by the
Tisa – Kanjiza and Novi Knezevac were separately developing. Kanjiza received the status of a town in 1908. By the bridge over the Tisa, there was also one of the most important terminals.
The whole
Potisje is known for its big and well equipped hunting grounds. For example, the hunting ground
Sencanski Salasi (Senta's Farms) occupies an area as big as the whole community of
Senta. There are numerous sand beaches, which are convenient for recreation by the Tisa, but the most important is that one in Kanjiza.
Titel town
Titel town, is situated in the triangle
between the rivers Tisa and Danube and opposite to the mouth of
Begej at the bottom of the town. It can be reached by the regional road that goes through south
Backa from
Novi Sad to
Banat.
Titel has a rich historical material back from the Roman period. Some data speak that Huns established a country here and gave name to this settlement. Turks conquered and destroyed the medieval town
Titel.
When you arrive to this small place in
Backa you certainly should visit
the Commemorative Gallery of Academic Painter Stojan Trumic in the center of the town and the building of the barracks from 1701, where the Hotel Tisa is located today. There is also
the native house of Mileva Maric Ajnstajn in Titel. However, the greatest attraction in the whole municipality represents the
Titel Hill, a specific lumber's hill that raises from Vojvodina's plain.
Numerous surducs, slopes, rich flora and fauna complete this unusual natural phenomenon. A
boat trip on the Tisa from
Begej to
Carska bara or to Mosorin, where is located the archaeological find Feudvar from the
Iron Age or the
Bronze Age, can be a nice adventure. Great conditions for different sports and recreative activities (rowing, driving in boats, flying a kite) are offered here, but there are also beautiful terrains for camping.
Titel is known for the following
manifestations: Titel's Days, a celebration of the village called Slava,
Masked Ball that is dedicated to the ending of the school year,
Children's Week,
Regatta,
Eco-camp,
Horse Races etc.
Zabalj town
The municipality of Zabalj is situated in the south of
Backa, in Sajkas's region. The regional road
Novi Sad - Zrenjanin passes by Zabalj.
Zabalj was mentioned for the first time in 1514 as fortress taken by
Doze Djerd. It was given the name
Jozeldorf in 1784, and four years later it became a center of
batallion's Protoprezerviter. After the revolution its old name was given back.
The most beautiful object in Zabalj is St. Father Nikolaj Temple. It was erected in baroque style. It has a unique iconostasis that was made of polished artificial stones of different color according to the plan of
Svetozar Ivackovic in 1884. Moreover, there is the
hunting ground Stara Tisa that is very rich with venison and feathery game. Certainly it should be mentioned that the valley of Jegricka together with the cut meander of the river
Tisa, the so-called
Mrtva Tisa, are maybe the most important settlements of swampy birds in Serbia that offer very good conditions for a photo-safari.
Near Zabalj,
the first professional golf course in Serbia has opened.
Temerin town
The municipality of Temerin is situated in
Backa, in the valley of the river Jegricka, not far from the capital of
Vojvodina. It is on the road
Novi Sad -
Senta and it is connected by motorways and railroads with
Becej,
Srbobran and
Zrenjanin.
Temerin was mentioned for the first time in 1332. The settlement was even to the last decennium of the 19th century in feudal properties of Hungarian aristocrats and rich shopkeepers. In
Temerin, there are some very interesting buildings from the 19th century and an old castle from 1796, which are exemplars of typical Pannonian architecture in
Temerin. Moreover, in Temerin also can be visited
the Homeland museum.
Temerin is also famous for its thermo mineral spa where are today accommodated an opened thermal and olympic swimming pool. One homeland's house - brvnara from western Bosnia that was reconstructed in Vojvodina, exists in
Backi Jarak. Furthermore, Sirig has a great monument of fascist's terror and combat resistance, a work of Pavle Radovanovic.
Vrbas town

In the central
Backa, at the crossroads of the main motorways and the railroads
Novi Sad – Subotica,
Becej – Sombor extends
the municipality of Vrbas.
The first data about this town are from 1387. After expelling the Turks from this area, the region of
Vrbas was settled by Hungarians, Romanians, and in the XVIII century by Germans. At the end of the XIX century, industrial production started, which was prerequisite for an intensive development. The rich Homeland's collection of
the Town Museum that includes a great number of archaeological and ethnographic exhibits, bear witness to the history of this region. The most beautiful architectonic buildings in the town are
the Cultural Center, the Museum, the Orthodox and the Catholic Church, as well as the Gymnasium building.
Hunting tourism in the community of Vrbas has the longest tradition. The most important and the most equipped hunting grounds are in the district of
Savino Selo and the hunting ground
Kucura is specialized for rabbit hunt.
Backa Topola town
The municipality of Backa Topola is situated in the northern part of Bačka, on Bačka's less plateau, 35km south from
Subotica and the border crossing towards Hungary.
The international motorway E-75, as well as the international railroad by which the
Balkan is connected with Western and Central Europe, go through the community.
Among the tourist resources, the agricultural properties
Zobnatica,
Panonija and
Krivaja that represent pearls of the
Pannonian plain particularly stand out .
Zobnatica is the oldest horse farm with rings, the museum of horse breeding and horseback riding and a hippodrome. Among cultural and historic monuments, thanks to its architectonic appearance and ethnological importance, particularly stand out
the Homeland's House, the Blacksmith's Workshop and the Windmill – the Museum of Cooking. By its appearance also attracts
the monumental Catholic Church in the center of the town, which is an architectonic monument from the end of the last century.
The
hunting and the
sports fishing are developed in the area of the community, and the
hunting grounds of the community are always visited by hunters from abroad.
Sombor town
The municipality of Sombor is situated in the northwest of
Backa. The
river Danube separates this community from Croatia and in the north this community borders with Hungary. The community of
Sombor is very well connected by regional roads which go from
Backi Breg,
Subotica,
Novi Sad and
Odzaci.
Sombor is 175 km from Belgrade, and 220 km from Budapest.
Sombor is an
old plain town, known for beautiful parks and rich greenery.
Sombor is also the place of
rich culture, political history and important sports tradition. The tourist attractions of
Sombor are very rich fishing waters of the river Danube and its backwaters, as well as the best hunting grounds in forests from Bezdan to Apatin.
In the very town that was first mentioned back in the 12th century, there are many interesting buildings and cultural institutions that eloquently speak about the rich history of this place. The most impressive is the
building of the former District Seat from 1884. That has so many rooms as one year has days. The oldest building in Sombor is the so-called
The Tower, the main building of
the Turkish fortification, which is more then
420 years old. When you come to Sombor it is certainly worth to see the
St. George church, built in baroque-rococo style. The church has an exceptionally valuable iconostasis, so that it has the status of a cultural monument. Among other buildings in the city nucleus and around it, it is necessary to mention the
Historical Archives, the Town Museum, the Karlo Bjelicki Library, the Laza Kostic Serbian Reading Room of the National Theater and the Preparatory School Building. Inside the Town Museum is a permanent picture gallery of the famous painter Milan Konjevic.
The most popular
picnic place is
Sikara in the beautiful forest on the outskirts of the town.
It is impossible to imagine
Sombor without
tamboura players. The sound of tambouras and stories about old tamboura players could be heard here from the beginning. In that way remained a memory on Mika from
Bereg who was made immortal in a song by
Zvonko Bogdan, a singer born in
Sombor, whose songs are nowadays sealed and characteristic for Vojvodina's plain.

Sombor, celebrated in songs of the town. Once there used to be as many as 70 of them, but today there is just one which is available to tourists. The coachman had work permits that could not be issued to a person of immoral conduct.

Apatin town
Apatin with its surroundings has a couple of tourist localities, firstly of hunting and fishing contents of I category. For
eco - safari lovers there are the following localities:
Bestrement, Kupusinski Dunavac, Ciganski Dunavac and Kandljija Pesak. Junakovic Spa is also situated nearly to
Apatin. It offers all conditions for recreation, treatment of heart diseases, blood vessels, diseases of digestive organs etc. The spa possesess swimming pools, sports grounds, saunas and also objects that are fit for all types of massage.
Backa Palanka town
Backa Palanka is situated on the bank of the
river Danube in the southwest of Backa,
40 kilometres far away from Novi Sad. It is located by a relative busy regional road that goes along the south of
Backa, from Novi Sad to Ilok.
The river Danube is the greatest gift of nature to Backa Palanka. There is the lake
Tikvara that stretches on 500 ha.
The complex Tikvara that offers different sports, recreation and entertaining contents is built next to the lake. On the territory of the community there is a great number of archaeological, ethnological and cultural monuments among which the most important are the archaeological locality near
Celarevo, the so-called
Avarian necropola and the old house in
Nestin, a pearl of Serbian architecture from the first half of the XVIII century.
The Castle of Dundjerski, a masterpiece of former glamour, is also situated in Celarevo. Karadjordjevo is situated 10 kilometres northwestern from
Backa Palanka. It is one of the most well-known and one of the biggest horse farms in Europe. There is also a well-known hunting ground with wonderful representatives of deer, moufllon, wild boar and feathery venison. The fishing areas of Karadjordjevo in the branches of the river Danube are rich in sheatfish, perch, carp and pike. Karadjordjevo represents a special natural reservation of II and III category.
Karadjordjevo was, thanks to its beauty, a favorite picnic place of supreme statesmen and
Josip Broz Tito in times of the old Yugoslavia.

Sid town
Sid is situated in the southwestern part of
Vojvodina, in western
Srem. The highway and the railroad track
Belgrade - Zagreb pass through the community.
The find of the locality
Gradina testifies that life in this area dates since prehistoric times, and in the ancient t
own Berkasovo, a helmet from Roman times was found. Sid with its picturesque surroundings, mild slopes of the mountain
Fruska Gora, water currents of
Sava,
Bosut and
Studva and three reservoirs near
Sot and
Erdevik offer different possibilities for vacation and recreation. Bosut still bears an epithet of the cleanest river in Europe.
Hunting grounds in

When you arrive to the Sid's community, it is worth to stop for a while and see the
Gallery of Paintigs of Sava Sumanovic, the
Museum of Naive Ilianum, the locality at
Gradina, Iconostasis in
Molovin, the monastery in
Privina Glava, or the old
Gothic Church in Morovic. Nearly to Sid, at km 108 of the
highway Belgrade – Zagreb is situated the Commemorative trait of Srem's front. This monumental complex was built at the place where 13 000 of fighters, who gave their lives for liberation of the country during the Second World War, were killed.
Salasi - Vojvodinas farms

One of the perfect places to visit in
Vojvodina is a
farmstead or salasi. These are located on a property outside of a village and usually includes a house and accessory buildings, stables, sheds etc. Don’t miss it.

Zobnatica
Zobnatica is most famous for their
horse breeding tradition which they have continued for almost 200 years. Zobnatica offers horseback riding, riding school and hackney-carriage rides.
The town is about
60 km North of Novi Sad, next to the highway to the city of
Subotica. At the
Zobnatica Racecourse you may watch races of the most extraordinary horses bred in the region. While in the area you may visit the
Museum of Horse Breeding, a unique European museum. Conferences may be arranged at the well equipped

The Fantast Castle

This
beautiful castle built by Bogdan Dundjerski, one of the wealthiest men in the region. Situated in an extraordinary natural environment of the

Ruma Town

The
municipality of Ruma is situated in
Srem, 65 km west of
Belgrade and 35 km from
Novi Sad. It is well connected with the transportation network. Ruma is 6 km from the
E-70 motorway that connects Belgrade and Zagreb, and the main road which connects
Vojvodina with Sarajevo and further on with Adriatic and has north-south direction, goes by Ruma. Ruma also represents an important railroad station on the
Belgrade-Zagreb line. The vicinity of the
airport Nikola Tesla to Ruma is another special convenience.
During your visit to Ruma you shouldn't miss to see the
Town Museum with its very valuable exhibits that conjure up life and history of people from Srem. The famous picnic place, the lake of
Borkovac with all the objects for a pleasant stay is located near the town. The archaeological site
Gomolava Hrtkovci dating from the
late Paleolite or the young Neolite is located in this area as well. Besides that, there are also two well equipped hunting grounds
Karakusa and
Morovic in the municipality. In the vicinity of Ruma, the
Bread Museum in Pecinci is located. There you can find out all the secrets of bakers' skills that have been developing for years in this area.
Ruma is a town with a great number of manifestations. These are:

The Regional Park of Gornje Podunavlje represents an area of an extreme significance for the permanent welfare of natural values globally important. The whole area consists of different ecosystems: watery, ponds, swampy, forest, of a meadow, etc. Many visitors will enjoy nature, sailing, fishing or bike riding around the town of
Apatin, in the neighboring town of Sombor, praised in many songs.
The Regional Park of
Gornje Podunavlje was established in 1982, and occupies an area of 9996 ha which is next to the left bank of the Danube river and it marks one of the last large oases left out of the swampy wood complexes. The whole area consists of different ecosystems: watery, ponds, swampy, forest, of a meadow, etc. The park should be looked just as a part of a bigger natural unity since it has a common frontier in the north with the
Dunav-Drava National Park, while in the west
Kopacki rit expands to the west. It is famous for its flora and fauna.
Many visitors will enjoy nature, sailing, fishing or bike riding around the town of Apatin, in the neighboring town of
Sombor, praised in many songs. You may take a tour in a hackney-carriage or visit one of the many galleries with the works of the famous
Serbian painters. The day can be finished at one of the ranches, with
traditional food and the ambiance of the past.
The Palic Lake
The Palic area offers a lot to the visitors including

art exhibition of the works of the naive artists, tennis courts, fitness center which is open throughout the season. You can also go for a visit to a prosperous farmstead which includes an organized lunch or to an ostrich or horse farm.
Palic is situated in the north of
Vojvodina,
7 km from Subotica. The water of the
Palic Lake is filled with naturally occurring minerals. The temperature is approximately 250C. It contains lithium and rubidium which are beneficial in treating rheumatism and nerve diseases.

Sremski Karlovci Town
Sremski Karlovci is a small town by the
Danube River and
on the northern base of the Fruska Gora Mountain. It is only
12 km away from Novi Sad and about one hour drive from Belgrade.
Many important events in the history of the Serbs and Europeans took place here.
The Turkish Empire and the Christian Alliance, formed by Austria, Venice and Poland at that time, made a treaty of peace here in 1699.
The Chapel of Peace was built to remember the event. The nicest souvenir from Karlovci is a bottle of extraordinary wine for which the town famous for, especially for the
Bermet dessert wine which is made of different herbal essences and seasonings. The wines can be tasted during the visits to one of the wine-cellars or during the visit to
the Museum of Honey Production which is both included in the tour.
Sremski Karlovci is the town where took place the most important events in Vojvodina's region through history. In the very baroque nucleus, you can see a great number of historical buildings that charm with its appearance and also with its importance. There stand out
the Lower church from 1718,
the Upper church (1745),
the Orthodox cathedral (1758-1762),
the Catholic church (1765),
the fountain Four lions built in the city square in honour of the completion of the construction of Karlovci's plumbing, the town hall (1811),
the Chapel of piece (the new chapel was built in 1817 as a country monument),
the Museum (the house of Rajacic built in 1891), the Grammar School (built on the place of an old one in 1891 serving the
Monastery Studenica as an example),
the Patriarchy (1894),
the Theological boarding school (1901) and
the palace Stefaneum (1903). Expect these, there are more buildings from the XVIII and XIX century in Sremski Karlovci among which stand out an old pharmacy and a house where once
Branko Radicevic lived.
Strazilovo, a well-known picnic ground and the place where Branko Radicevic is buried, is situated in the neighbourhood of this historical town.
In the vicinity of
Karlovci is
the National park of Fruska Gora that, in addition to natural beauties, also hides
16 orthodox monasteries. The surroundings of
Fruska Gora are beautified by vineyards that dominate the neighbourhood. Karlovci is famous for well-known wines that are even drunken in Amerika. Today in Vienna exists a protected name of
rosé wine as
Karlovci tovajn.
Subotica Town

The community of
Subotica is situated in the final north of Backa,
at the border to Hungary. It is a very important crossroad of motorways and railroads. It is placed
on the international motorway E-75 and important railroad route that connects the Balkans with North and West Europe.
Today,
Subotica is the second biggest town in
Vojvodina. It was mentioned as a settlement back to XVI century. During the centuries it was under rule of different masters. One of the most interesting figures of its past is emperor Jovan Nenad, whose center of empire was exactly in
Subotica.
Subotica experienced a particularly intensive development in the XIX century. Today, Subotica is a great industrial and agricultural center and the most important town of the entire northern part of Vojvodina. The town with its surroundings possesses a lot of interesting localities for tourists. Besides
the old City Hall, a monumental building from the beginning of this century with ornaments, mosaics and decorations of great art value, also stand out
the Town Museum Building that is made in famous zsolnai ceramics,
the Town Library and the theater building.
Subotica is a town with a great number of religious objects, of which
the monumental Catholic cathedral and
the Jewish synagogue that is the biggest in
Vojvodina stand out. The entire city nucleus is characterized by beautiful architectonic buildings, built in gothic, baroque, secession, neoclassicism styles that put
Subotica among the most beautiful towns in the
Pannonian area.
The complex Palic is located near Subotica. There are arranged footpaths, a zoo, hotels, restaurants and different sports terrains by the lake. In the direct vicinity of the town, beside the
lake of Palic, there are also an ornithological station and an ethno-house where you will meet with the former way of life in this area. Famous manifestations are:

Festival of Vojvodina's experimental scenes.
Sremska Mitrovica Town
Sremska Mitrovica is situated in the southern part of
Srem, on the
river Sava, in the border area of
Central Serbia, more exactly of
Macva. It is situated on the international
motorway E-70. It is connected with the regional road
Novi Sad - Sabac in the direction of North-South. The International railroad track that connects
West Europe with
South Europe and Orient also passes through Sremska Mitrovica. Sremska Mitrovica is located 79 km from
Belgrade, and 50 km from
Novi Sad.
Sirmium - the great ancient town of the
Roman province Lower Pannonia was situated in the area of today's Sremska Mitrovica. It represents one of four metropolis where five Roman emperors were born and lived. The complexity of archaeological excavated objects of this town today represents an unique open-air
museum. There is the emperor's palace, the ancient palace with thermal springs,
Sirmium's corn-house, the monumental
Roman bathroom, remainders of an ancient plumbing and the
University of God Jupiter.
The city nucleus of Sremska Mitrovica today is decorated with some old objects which are many centuries old, among which a flat of a border guard's farmer and the military building from the XVIII century particularily stand out . There are also the
Museum of Srem and the
Museum of Church Art in town. Near the town, the swamp
Zasavica is located and it, with its surroundings, represents a rare natural nook. Zasavica was declared a
Special Natural Reservation of the first category. Rare species of flora and fauna, among which
Umbra krameri, the sole representative of the family Umbridae in Europe stands out , can be found in unusual wild environment, close to the town. The swamp is rich in fish, especially in carp and pike. The ornithofauna is represented by 120 bird species of which 80 are nesty birds, so that an ideal possibility for photo-safari is given here.
